12 Best Green Beauty Discoveries of 2017

Hi Lovelies,

Best Green Beauty Discoveries of 2017

So I was browsing some blog or the other, and it had a post that struck a chord with me, New Discoveries Of The Year. So it got me thinking what are my best discoveries for last year and how come I never did any post like this before? After careful consideration and thinking about it for a week, here are my Best Discoveries of 2017 in no particular order. Most of them have reviews on the blog already, so I won't spend time talking about each product in great detail, and thus repeating myself. Only two products escaped my scrutiny so far, but I will make sure to get those reviews out asap. It's just that blogger's overwhelm is getting very real at this stage. Don't get me wrong, I love discovering new products! It's just I am afraid I could miss out on amazing products by not giving them the proper attention they deserve, due to the sheer volume of products I own. By the way, I am stock taking and minimizing my stash at the moment, so expect a blog sale post with lots of free products too.
But for now, let's focus on my best discoveries from last year, shall we?

Isun Ormus Myst

This is a signature ISUN product and for me, love at a first spritz! Have you ever heard of mystical ormus creatures found in living water? Well, you are about to find out! They are tiny spherical atoms of gold, silver and platinum found in clear spring water in Colorado mountains, where ISUN products are made, and that is exactly the base for this facial spritz. They are awesome at renewing and rejuvenating your skin. Plus it smells amazing! See review here. I need this beauty back in my life. It was very hard to choose as all Isun products are amazing in my opinion, but this was a love at a first spritz!

Earthwise Beauty Nap In The Meadow

This is my favourite product from Earthwise Beauty - I haven't tried that many, but I am keen to try more. The woman behind the brand, Ava Zhan is kind of green beauty wizard. Find my review of their Nap In The Meadow, Marshmallow Suds and Passion Eye Serum here. Many things from them are on my wishlist, and those include Sungod, Farizad's Veil, Cistus & Moonlight face mist, Ruby facial oil and one of the facial steams (I want to compare professional formulation to my own DIY)

Living Libations Products

As soon as I discovered Dutch Health Store carries a large selection of Living Libations products, not just selected few Best Skin Ever, I placed an order for some dental products, and I loved them! Next came the spirulina shampoo, and it was equally amazing - so much that all of these products made into my 2017 Best Products post. You can find my review of the dental products here and the shampoo here; and all I can say, all the other products my this amazing truly clean brand, come this way! Seriously, you should see my Living Libations wishlist! Two miles long, no kidding.

DEW DAB REVIEW

Dr.Alkaitis Organic Healing Gel

This is one of those few items that escaped my scrutiny and exposure on social media. I bought this after receiving a sample in a green beauty swap with Italian blogger 1988 Bori, as I fell love with how good this was for my dermatitis affected area, it was instantly much calmer and soothed! I will review it separately some day, but I can say that it is one of those high end priced products worth the money, at least for me. Fabulous natural ingredients, but if you are very sensitive and can't handle much essential oils, please try to obtain a sample of it - my skin miraculously can handle it, but I have to close my eyes when I apply it, as it irritates them. It increased in price since I bought it, so let me just say I will be looking for deals like a hawk :)

This was a pleasant surprise and the most successful shoot-in-the-dark purchase of the year, and by that I mean it was the most successful perfume purchase online. So successful in fact that it went into my Top Three Favourite Perfumes Of All Times. Please see the review here if you missed it. It has sandalwood, vanilla, tonka bean, tobacco and cedarwood. Can be used for men too, which is exactly why I like it! I am one of those rare breed of females who prefer to wear male fragrance.
Get it from Love Lula here, or try a sample kit.

Leahlani Mermaid Mask

This isn't technically a 2017 discovery, it was only a year I finally invested in a full size of the mask, after discovering it a year previously. It is really amazing, with visible results (with continuous use) and amazing ingredients! Essentially it is a honey based mask with spirulina, but it also has some amazing extracts in it, and it is why I can't DIY it. It is also one of the cheapest masks in green beauty (and also available within Europe) and that is exactly why I will keep repurchasing it. Review to come soon.

A great natural brand that is available locally to me, and thanks goodness for that! (Get if from Amazon if not) I have numerous products, and I don't plan to stop there. Review can be found here, and I can tell I can understand why Hollywood and stars of a lesser caliber favour it - it is amazing. Palette and the liquid eye liner made into my 2017 Best Products post, and there is so many products I want to try next - mascara, lip products, green concealer, and hopefully V.Claire will make the coloured finishing pearls called Perles Sublimatrices available here too, because I really want to get them. It is not a need thing, more of a "want" thing - it would finish off my green beauty make up collection very nicely. It reminds me so much of those Guerlain pearls, and I see it as an ultimate luxe product.

Dudu Osun African Black Soap

Probably the most affordable out of all products I am mentioning here, and the one I intend to re-purchase time and time again. First of all, it has only minimal natural ingredients, secondly it works very well and does not dry out the skin, thirdly it comes in only cardboard box, no plastic, so it is good for the planet (and us). I have reviewed it here, and I kind of don't want to test and review other soaps, because this is so good. Get it from Love Lula here.

If you are after a full coverage concealer, you would love this. I have to be upfront, it is sticky, but it offers full coverage and I find it does not crease. This is my second favourite green beauty concealer after the Hynt Beauty Duo Perfecting concealer (which offers more coverage, but creases slightly, plus I sadly happen to be in between the shades). I have a review of a couple of Ere Perez products here, and I happen to love their Bondi blush too, which is one of the 20+ natural Nars Orgasm dupes I've found. Can be found in Love Lula here.

The best discovery of 2017 for my dermatitis prone skin. Repurchased at least five times in last year alone, so let this be a testament of how much I love it. We all know that bloggers rarely repurchase a thing, unless it is really good. And this is really good for my dry skin - it is amazing, and my skin just drinks it up! it is not designed to treat dermatitis, but my skin is on it's best behavior when I use this, and if I happen to have a breakout due to accidentally glutening myself or testing some unsuitable products, this is the first thing I reach for, as I know my skin will be soothed and calmed in an instant. See review in this link, and if you want to, get it from Love Lula here

Rahua Shampoo

Just like with Living Libations True Blue Spirulina shampoo, all I can say is this - it is worth the money. And trust me, I am not someone who recommends pricy products easily! Rahua line has been on my radar since the very start of my own switch to the green side, but it took me eight years to come round to try this - until then I spent many years having bad hair days - trying all the budget clean shampoos I could find, and crying crocodile tears when none of them worked for me.
I got mine in Love Lula.

So those were my favourite discoveries of 2017 - thinking back, it was amazing year for discovering new fantastic products. This is the first this type of post I'd done to date, but I will keep it up. It was fun to look back and remember the new-to-me things I enjoyed.

What were your best discoveries of 2017? Please share, I would love to know!

*Update in 2020 - every single product is still a favourite and that is saying something ðŸ’•

2017 Overview

Hi Lovelies,

Welcome back! And if you are new here, welcome 💕💕💕

2017 Overview

So, as the year is nearing the end, I, like all of us, tend to reflect on the year on the whole and weigh in the good and the bad things that have happened.

Let's look at my 2017 blogging year in the retrospective, shall we?

First of all, thank YOU so much for reading, supporting, commenting and liking my posts, without you my lovely readers I would be nothing! I care about every single one of you and the connection we build is priceless to me 💖 So huge thank you from the bottom of my heart! I just love serving the world by sharing ways to green and eco your life by being super honest about what works and what doesn't. I share my point from sensitive skin point of view.

Most Proud Moments

Love Lula Blogger Recommendations

That would have to be me being accepted as LLABP or Love Lula Accredited Blogger Program blogger, I am really proud to join lovely Love Lula blogger family, and me guest blogging for ISUN Skincare UK, as well as Dutch Health Store. I was also featured in Luk Beautifood website twice this year. Not too shabby, right? Gratitude mode: ON!!

Very happy to say my followers are nearing 14k combined (and counting) this year, never in a million years I thought I'd reach more than a couple of dozens of people!

My posts on ISUN Skincare UK blog

Most viewed posts

That would be the following :

Hynt Beauty Duo Perfecting concealer review

(older review here), the funny thing is, my 1st review for this called Natural Dupe for CoverFX Drops received three times more views versus the one called straight up "Hynt Beauty Concealer Review". It goes to show that people want natural alternatives to the conventional make up stuff, and maybe I should focus more on these types of posts?

Love Lula Black Friday Picks

I did a Black Friday green beauty sales round up happening in the EU and UK this year, as well as my picks from Love Lula, and they both were very popular posts, so that makes me think that BF is here to stay for good, and I shall do the same next year, minus so much spending on my part - I still blush when I think how much money I've spent this year! Whoops! Also, #sorrynotsorry 😎

Dermatitis Be Gone

You can see the post here, and as I said, I will make the follow up post as it gathers interest a lot and I get countless messages about it on social media. I am more or less 2 years dermatitis free, I am not out of the woods yet as I did have three breakouts where I accidentally glutened myself, but my day to day life is symptoms and itch free. Also antibiotics and steroids free. Stay tuned for this :)

Nars Orgasm Dupes post

This was the item I clung onto the most when I made a switch eight years ago as it was the hardest to replace, there were nothing even remotely similar to it in the green beauty world. Thankfully the green beauty scene really exploded since, and I am proud to present not one, not two, but over TWENTY natural dupes for it! Clearly, I worked really hard on this :) And if my blog post is still in the most popular ones one year on, it means I am onto something here, I guess many people like it too but want more natural options?

Love Lula Beauty Boxes posts:

As part of Love Lula Accredited Blogger Program, I started getting Love Lula Beauty boxes, and I have to say I really started looking forward to them - it feels like getting a present each month! As I live in Ireland, I am often one of the last people to get them - it takes 7 to 10 days to get here, but what's funny, I always seem to get it on the same day with my blogger order, even though the boxes are shipped a week apart. Post moves in mysterious ways, isn't it? See my posts on December, November, October, September, August, June and May boxes.

Jo Browne Natural Perfumes Review

I have started Irish Series blog posts this year and this post is by far the most favourite with public. I was one of the first people to publish review on them as soon as they came out, and let me just say they are starting collecting awards for it. I can totally see why, many months on they are still one of my favourite natural perfumes - they last and they don't lose their scent after a couple of weeks.

Note to myself: I really should work more on Irish Series in 2018!

Ere Perez Natural Cosmetics Review

Let me just say that their concealer quickly found it's way into my top favourites (full coverage, people!) and they have a dupe for Nars Orgasm in a form of Bondi blush! Do I need to say more? I really want to try the rest of the range, and if I will, I will keep you posted. I love doing reviews like this.

ISUN Skincare UK posts

This is one of the best discoveries from last year and continuous love affair in 2017. Truly natural and luxurious line and I am yet to come across the product I don't like from them, so I am so glad you guys like it too. I was very happy to partner up with them for a giveaway twice, so I say - watch this space! If you want to read my reviews I'd done so far, they can be found here, here, here, here and here.

Natural Beauties Series

I really enjoy doing these Natural Beauty Series posts, where I interview the movers and shakers in the green beauty world. I have to say that I am very happy with this addition, as it gives you the chance to discover more green beauties if you don't follow them already, and it gives me the opportunity to be nosy :) Needless to say I am continuing these series in the new year too, and for now, you can check out my interviews with the lovely Jana from Small Bits of Loveliness, Modesta from Grozio Gurmane, Andrea from Organic Beauty Lover, Linda from Lindalu19 as well as last year's posts: Sasha from Balanced Beauty Bristol, Vita from Vita Lives Free, Michele from BVGAN and Andie from Andie the Green Queen.

Overall experience

My personal life has been tainted with sadness, two of my closest women getting cancer, and loss (again, twice), our house nearly burning down - I had to find a lot of strength within just to carry on. But this blog isn't about my personal life, so let's move on - my blog is going from strength to strength this year, and I am so glad and thankful to each and everyone of you who read my posts, liked and commented on any of my social media outlet and to the green beauty community who welcomed me with open arms! So glad to be a part of something bigger than me! In Ireland I am a still a lone soldier in a field when it comes to the all stuff natural. I mean there are a few shops that sell natural products, I don't know any other green beauty bloggers, and there are no expos that would be open to the public! So yeah, I don't have it easy here. I mean we don't even have Wholefoods or even Sephora. Thanks goodness for online shopping! Custom charges are whole lotta of other story, but let's not get into it here. I also wanted to thank Love Lula who welcomed me into their blogger family - I plan to be in the long haul with you!, ISUN Skincare UK and Dutch Health Store for having me, as well as all the brands who worked with me this year, and if your review is not out yet, fear not, it will be out very soon in 2018. I have to say I discovered some amazing products this year, and I am hoping for more amazingness next year!

green life in dublin
Green Life In Dublin best nine, thanks for over 30k of likes you guys!

Goals and resolutions for next year

My previous sentence pretty much sums it up! More amazingness to come please! This was fun, let's keep it up, I mean I hope you found my blog posts helpful and informative. Your messages asking for help in making the switch to the green beauty or help with dermatitis/eczema and/or thank you messages for what I do is the best feeling ever! In my mind it confirms I am on the right track! I had a long and hard thought what drives me to continue blogging, as it is loads of hard work for (nearly always) free, and it is not the money, not the thought of getting awesome PR samples or latest launches in the green beauty world - it is me wanting to be helpful to you guys to switch to the green side - I literally do a happy dance when I get messages telling me I helped people in some form or another. That is what drives me! Blogging is my passion and I really enjoy doing it, and it's been the first year I made small tangible gains from it, after eight years of doing it for free. I clearly run on passion! I think I need to educate myself on this blogging business - I mean it was only last year I heard about SEO and I realized I never asked you guys to like and share my posts! /Insert hand on the eyes and shaking head emoji here/ So my goals for next year are to attend the bloggers conference, meet some fellow bloggers in person - if you are a natural beauty/lifestyle blogger visiting Dublin, drop me a line! Also I want to look into monetisation in non annoying ways. I see many bloggers who make their entire blog and IG feed shoppable, and while I can't blame them for wanting to cash in on their hard work (because it IS hard work, everything from testing the products to writing/photographing takes a lot time and effort, not to mention when blogger platform has a mind on it's own and you end up re-doing all your work all over) but at the same time I do not want to become a giant add myself, cash is not my goal, I want it to be a rather by-product of blogging and it is clearly not what I am in for! You know that honesty is what I am all about, and I've been told this is exactly what sets me apart from other bloggers time and time again. I take it as a massive compliment and I intend to keep it that way. So if you will see an affiliate link, it will be to only brands or online shops I believe in. I won't be attaching my name to anything that comes my way, much in the same way that I reject 90% of products offered for review. I also want to continue to host giveaways, I love when I get to share the products I love with you guys! I also plan to expand my content a bit, and introduce more varied topics, you can expect easy, healthy and quick to do recipes, maybe some fashion in a form of outfits of the day and a bit of shopping here and there, book reviews and who knows, maybe 2018 will be the year I will start my YouTube channel? It is something I want to do, but because of my own insecurities I always take one step forward and two backwards about it.

*After having a long and hard thinking session about this, I decided to aim high and reveal my wildest dreams too, after all, life has a funny tendency to give you exactly what you want! So I wanted to add my Big Dreams to this - I would like to be featured in a magazine, or have my own rubric in a magazine talking all things green beauty and answering readers questions. And eventually being asked to judge in Green Beauty Awards in some shape or form, because I know I would do a great job at it! And then maybe a blogging award would appear on the horizon :)

There, I said it :) Now let's see what Universe will bring my way in 2018. Make it good :)

So there you have it, my thoughts on the blogging business and the goals for the next year. What are your goals, please share with me?

With this I want to let you know I will be taking the rest of the year off, makes sense for the Holiday period, no? Try not miss me too much, and if you will, re-read any old post of mine, I wrote 100 (give or take) posts this year, and that makes it more than 300 posts in total, so you won't be short of topics! 2017 Best Products or my All My Green Beauty Reviews To Date is a good way to start 😉

Wishing you all the best this Christmas and see you all here in 2018. I raise my glass of bubbly to you!

2017 Best Natural and Organic Products

Hi Lovelies,

Welcome back! And if you are new here, welcome 💕💕💕

green life in dublin
2017 Best Green Beauty Products

Just like I did last year, I am presenting you my Top Products of 2017 in each category. I did try a ton of new stuff this year, even to the point of being overwhelmed, but even so, some of the products haven't changed, and they are moved into "Firm Classics" or "Holy Grail" category by now. I will make sure to point those out. Or you can always go and read my 2016 Top Products post, which I will link at the bottom of my post. If I have a separate review on product, I will link it, so I think it will turn into links galore, like it did last year, so you can always go check my thoughts on products you are interested in, because I always go in as much details as I possibly can in my reviews, as well as listing the ingredients of everything. P.s.if you want to see reviews of products, see here and here.

If you will have any questions, please feel free to ask them down below, and if you won't find some categories, like retinol product or peels or hair dye, then it means I don't use them.

Ok, drum roll please, let's see what products get Green Life In Dublin Seal of Approval! So, let's go grab a coffee and a snack, and shall we start?

Green Life In Dublin
2017 Best Make Up Products ¦ Green Beauty

Mineral powder foundation

Pure Anada followed closely by English Mineral Make up. Both non movers from last year.

Liquid foundation
Inika

Blush

Inika's Peachy Keen plus all these other Nars Orgasm Dupes.

BB cream

Inika and Living Nature.

Cream concealer

Hynt Beauty Duet Perfecting Concealer followed closely by Ere Perez cream concealer in Latte.

Powder concealer

Pure Anada mineral foundation, more pigmented than many powder concealers. I bought Alima Pure powder concealer and was really disappointed with it, does not even come close!

Bronzer

Studio78. Inika is a close second, but it is more warm in undertone.

Mascara

I have tried a few new ones this year, and I really like Inika Long Lash Mascara, Nude by Nature and PHB ones. All of them give great length, volume and do not flake - which is really important for me, flaking is a big pet peeve of mine.

Pencil eye liner

100%Pure black eyeliner. This is not perfect nor it is long lasting, but it is creamy, black and easy to apply. All the others seem not pigmented and scratchy in comparison.

Liquid eyeliner

Couleur Caramel

Lipstick

Hynt Beauty Pinkibelle without a doubt. My search for "your lips but better" peachy pink nude is over.

Lip gloss

Can you believe I didn't try new lipgloss this year?! Me neither! I am still reminiscent of 100%Pure Gemmed Lip Gloss in Peacock Ore even though I will no longer purchase from 100%Pure due to the increase in shipping fees, where postage alone exceed tax free limit in EU. Could some EU web shops take note and start selling them please? These lip glosses are perfect dupe for my previously loved Juicy Tubes, and this is why I am so sad to find and lose it so soon again!

Highlighter

Inika Highlighting Creme. Non mover for the last year - this highlight might seem pricy, but as you only need pin prick amount each time, it will last you a really long time, I had mine over a year for sure. Perfect balance in between of gold and pink, suits everybody, can be as subtle or as POW-in-your-face as you want it to, and it is the only highlighter that lasts all day on me.

Palette - Couleur Caramel one.

Eye shadow single/duo
Inika Golden Oyster

Cruelty free make up brushes

Real Techniques and Ecotools - see both on Amazon.

Eye brow stuff

Alverde or Pure Anada Cinder. Both products give perfect ashy tones to my brows. Most of the stuff on the market is way too warm toned for me. I need ashy, almost grey, and I hope more companies will take note.

Lip balm
Hurraw and Bees Flying Wild. Both have the best staying power.

2017 Best Skincare Products ¦ Green Beauty Edition

Moisturiser

Dr.Haushka Rose Day Cream. Repurchased at least five times this year, so let this be a testament. I received a few gorgeous face creams recently, so this might change soon.

Facial oil

would you believe that this die hard lover of facial oils discontinued using them? After some digging I decided to stop using them for a while due to my dermatitis (dermatitis hates oils, and I refused to believe it, even though my skin protested wildly?) and see how my skin feels without them - and you know what, I spent majority of the year without them, using moisturisers and facial toners/mists only (7 skin method, anyone?). I introduced oils back when autumn came, and despite having a nice collection of ISUN Saphire, Skin & Tonic Naked Beauty Oil, Pai Organic Rosehip Bio Regenerative Oil. Also Mahalo Vitality Elixir Facial Oil if you fancy treating yourself. Dreamy.

Serum (water or aloe based)
Earthwise Beauty Nap In The Meadow

Facial Balm

Mahalo Rare Indigo Non mover from the last year, and thankfully I own a full size of it now. Amaaaazing for dermatitis or inflamed or blemish prone skin. Search for Mahalo review if you are interested?

Acne treatment

tea tree oil straight onto the pimple. Nothing works better or quicker. Just be careful to put it onto the pimple ONLY, and not the skin around it - tea tree oil burns are real, and I don't want you to experience it. Manuka & tea tree oil gel by Living Nature is nice too.

Liquid/Gel facial wash/cleanser

ISUN Skincare UK Coco Cucumber.

Balm Cleanser

Balm Balm

Moisturiser with SPF

Kimberley Sayer Ultra Light Moisturizer SPF30

Face exfoliant

Physical - Isun Skincare UK Rhasoul
AHA/BHA - Honua Skincare Hawaiian Beauty Water

Make up remover

Isun Skincare UK Coco Cucumber cleanser + konjac sponge. I don't do wipes, ever.

Eye make up remover

water and oil on a cotton round. I don't waste time and money looking for perfect eye make up remover when this combo is gentle, costs next to nothing, removes all make up, even water proof one AND moisturises delicate skin around the eyes. Win win situation if you ask me? Isun Coco Cucumber Cleanser works for eyes too, no irritations.

Under eye cream

Isun Peptide Eye Cream

Under eye oil
Earthwise Beauty Passion Eye Serum

Face mask

DIY masks with manuka honey. Over 12 recipes. I own a good few shop bought masks too, look out for masking post in the early 2018.

Toner/mist

ISUN Skincare UK Ormus Myst. I need this beauty back into my life.

green life in dublin
2017 Best Bodycare Products ¦ Green Beauty Edition

Body scrub

I diy it a lot of the time.

Body wash

NYR shower gels. Last for months. Also black African soap. Both non movers from last year.

Eczema/dermatitis treatment

pure shea butter and the Mahalo Rare Indigo Balm.

Deodorant

my DIY. I've been using it for years, and why buy when it costs 20 cents to make for 6 months worth? This contains baking soda though, so it is not for everyone.

Shaving cream/foam

I use hair conditioners to shave my legs with, but if you want a "proper" product, Logona has nice one.

Body lotion

Alaffia Coconut Strawberry body and hair lotion.

Body butter
Budget option - Flying Wild Honey Body Butter
Luxe option - ISUN Herbal Shea Butter

Body Oil
Inner Senses Organics

green life in dublin
2017 Best Haircare Products ¦ Green Beauty

Shampoo

Rahua Voluminous Shampoo followed closely by Spirulina Shampoo by Living Libations

Hair and scalp oil

Zatik.

I am really minimal with my haircare, I use no styling products at all, nor heat in any form. If my hair has flyways I will use a small amount of Zatik or plain argain oil to smooth it out and that's pretty much it.

2017 Best Natural & Organic Products

Liquid - Walden A Different Drummer
Solid - Jo Browne Ireland
