Join me in search of all things natural! I hope to inspire you to embrace the natural you in all areas in your life - we simply don't need all those man made chemicals in our products as we are lead to believe. Recognise the catchphrase "Because you are worth it?" Well, my catchphrase is "I am worth more than that!"
Hi Lovelies! Welcome back! And if you are new here, welcome 💕💕💕
So, as the year is nearing the end, I, like all of us, tend to reflect on the year on the whole and weigh in the good and the bad things that have happened.
Let's look at my 2016 blogging year in the retrospective, shall we?
First of all, thank YOU so much for reading, supporting, commenting and liking my posts, without you my lovely readers I would be nothing! I care about every single one of you and the connection we build is priceless to me 💖 So huge thank you from the bottom of my heart! I just love serving the world by sharing ways to green and eco your life by being super honest about what works and what doesn't. I share my point from sensitive skin point of view. I don't make any money from my blog, but the rewards are different, intangible, I am overjoyed when someone tells me I helped them to make the switch to the green beauty or asks me for clean make up recommendations. I do get a ton of emails in regard to healing dermatitis naturally, so I will do a separate follow up blog post on that, promise. You might be surprised to know that most of my followers/readers come from America and Asia, Ireland being in the third and UK in the fourth place. Life moves in mysterious ways, isn't it?
Hynt Beauty Duo Perfecting concealer review(older reviewhere), the funny thing is, my review for this amazing beauty called Natural Dupe for CoverFX Drops received three times more views versus the one called straight up "Hynt Beauty Concealer Review". It goes to show that people want natural alternatives to the conventional make up stuff, and maybe I should focus more on these types of posts?
You can see the post here, and as I said, I will make the follow up post as it gathers interest. I am more or less 1 year dermatitis free, I am not out of the woods yet as I did have three breakouts where I accidentally glutened myself, but my day to day life is symptoms and itch free. Also antibiotics and steroids free. Stay tuned for this :)
This local Irish company quickly found a place in my favourites, and I never want to be without their products! This is a big claim, but I think this is my Holy Grail company when it comes to body care, I intend to purchase their products until I cease to exist. The balms and the body butter are to die for, minimal natural mostly raw and organic ingredients and the smell is out of this world gorgeous. Not only that, but they are also affordable and ship for free! I've been shouting about this brand from the rooftops, aka all over social media, and we recently collaborated for a giveaway, which I am super stoked about, as you guys can get a chance to try it too.
This was the item I clung onto the most when I made a switch six or seven years ago as it was the hardest to replace, there were nothing even remotely similar to it in the green beauty world. Thankfully the green beauty scene really exploded since, and I am proud to present not one, not two, but FOURTEEN natural dupes! Clearly, I worked really hard on this :)
Clearly inspired by the iconic Master Mixer by RMS. I am happy to DIY what I can, and you seemed to enjoy this post too. If you missed that post, click on the link above. I plan lots of more DIY posts next!
I am so glad and thankful to each and everyone of you who read my posts, liked and commented on any of my social media outlet and to the green beauty community who welcomed me with open arms! So glad to be a part of something bigger than me!In Ireland I am a still a lone soldier in a field when it comes to the all stuff natural. I mean there are a few shops that sell natural products, I don't know any other green beauty bloggers, and there are no expos that would be open to the public! So yeah, I don't have it easy here. I mean we don't even have Wholefoods or even Sephora. Thanks goodness for online shopping! Custom charges are whole lotta of other story, but let's not get into it here. At first when I didn't know where to look for natural products I shopped online pretty much for everything, but now I am coming to realise that Ireland market has changed so much and I can get many bases covered shopping locally (yay or what?) with the odd online order for make up. I also wanted to thank all the brands who worked with me this year, and if your review is not out yet, fear not, it will be out very soon in 2017. I have to say i discovered some amazing products this year, and I am hoping for more amazingness next year!
Goals and resolutions for next year
My previous sentence pretty much sums it up! More amazingness to come please! This was fun, let's keep it up, I mean I hope you found my blog posts helpful and informative. Your messages asking for help in making the switch to the green beauty or help with dermatitis/eczema and/or thank you messages for what I do is the best feeling ever in my mind it confirms I am on the right track! Blogging is my passion and I really enjoy doing it, even though I don't get paid to do so. I sat down the other day and realised I need to learn so much about blogging, of all these other behind-the-scenes things that blogger is supposed to do, I mean it was only this year I heard about SEO and I realized I never asked you guys to like and share my posts! /Insert hand on the eyes and shaking head emoji here/ I clearly run on passion alone! So my goals for next year are to attend the bloggers conference, meet some fellow bloggers in person - if you are a natural beauty/lifestyle blogger visiting Dublin, drop me a line! Also I want to look into monetisation in non annoying ways. I see many bloggers who make their entire blog and IG feed shoppable, and while I can't blame them for wanting to cash in on their hard work (because it IShard work, everything from testing the products to writing/photographing takes a lot time and effort) but at the same time I do not want to become a giant add myself, cash is not my goal, I want it to be a rather by-product of blogging and it is clearly not what i am in for! You know that honesty is what I am all about, and I've been told this is exactly what sets me apart from other bloggers, and I intend to keep it that way. So if you will see an affiliate link, it will be to only brands or online shops I believe in. I won't be attaching my name to anything that comes my way, much in the same way that I reject 90% of products offered for review. I also want to continue to host giveaways, I love when I get to share the products i love with you guys! I also plan to expand my content a bit, and introduce more varied topics, you can expect easy, healthy and quick to do recipes, maybe some fashion in a form of outfits of the day and a bit of shopping here and there, book reviews and who knows, maybe 2017 will be the year I will start my YouTube channel? It is something I want to do, but because of my insecurities I always take one step forward and two backwards about it. Another things I need to do is to make a blogger business card and media kit.
So there you have it, my thoughts on the blogging business and the goals for the next year. What are your goals, please share with me?
With this I want to let you know I will be taking the rest of the year off, makes sense for the Holiday period, no? Try not miss me too much, and if you will, re-read any old post of mine, I wrote 80 posts this year, so you won't be short of topics, 2016 Best Products is a good way to start 😉
Wishing you all the best this Christmas and see you all here in 2017. I raise my glass of bubbly to you!
Grateful heart is a magnet for miracles. Photo via Pinterest.
Here is my green beauty wish list for 2017, this is basically the concentrated minimum, and I just noticed I forgot to include leopard print Z palette, so consider that as number 12, lol. The numbers are random, the number one wish is Rare Indigo balm by Mahalo, and I think that will be the only thing I will purchase next year, but who knows? I feel it is important to voice what you want and what do I know, the Universe might provide exactly that :)
1. May Linsdstrom Honey Mud
2. & 3. Root Pretty foundation and Sadie blush
4. Gressa Serum foundation
5. Sappho foundation
6. Juice Beauty Serum foundation
(what can I say, my quest for perfect foundation continues)
7. Mahalo Skincare - the whole line, esp Rare Indigo balm and Unveil as top two wishes
8. Leahlani Skincare - again, the whole line, with Mermaid mask as nr 1
9. Beauty Blender - original one
10. Blue Cocoon balm from May Lindstrom
11. Lotus Wei - again, the whole line! Maybe Healing Sleep first :)
12. And forgotten item - leopard print Z palette
What makes your list? Please share with me, I would love to know!
2. Wooden carved decor headboard and various pieces in interior throughout the house. I really want authentic handmade furniture, preferably from sandalwood - Asian inspired style. 3. Native Indian music. 4. Himalayan salt lamp(s). I currently own 4 :) 5. Mexican blanket and all natural materials all throughout. 6. Wooden spoons represent wooden kitchenware. Currently loving all things handmade from wood. 7. Wood bedding. Naturally mites repellant, won't make you too hot or too cold. Natural sustainable material, enough said!
Hi Lovelies, Welcome back! And if you are new here, welcome 💕💕💕
2016 Favourite Products - Green Beauty Edition.
Huh? Is it the end of the year already? I can't believe it, wasn't it March like yesterday? Even though it caught me off guard, I guess it is time for my Holy Grail or Faves of 2016 round up, so shall we begin? This blog post will be links galore where I will link to the blog reviews on mentioned items. And if they are not reviewed yet, that means the reviews are to come really soon! I won't go into too much detail about every single product or the post will be two miles long, as nobody has time for that, right? If you will have any questions, please feel free to ask them down below, and if you won't find some categories, like retinol product or peels or hair dye, then it means I don't use them. Ok, drum roll please, let's see what products get Green Life In Dublin Seal of Approval!
Foundation - Pure Anada followed closely by English Mineral Make up. (with my dermatitis scars I am looking for high coverage. The jury's still out on the liquid/cream front, I have tried many, but haven't found "the one" yet) Blush - 100%Pure Mimosa plus all these other Nars Orgasm Dupes. BB cream - Lily Lolo and Living Nature. Cream concealer - Hynt Beauty Duet Perfecting Concealer. Powder concealer - Pure Anada mineral foundation, more pigmented than many powder concealers Bronzer - Studio78 Mascara - 100%Pure Maracuja oil mascara - PS. I no longer recommend this mascara for the reasons detailed here. I repurchased it seven times, three out of seven the mascara came smelling of alcohol, meaning it is old. I do not find it acceptable having in mind that not only it is expensive on it's own, I often have to pay custom fees on top. This will-I-get-good-mascara-this-time-or-will-it-be-old roulette should not be happening at all in the first place. Any suggestions for a clean volumising mascara that does not flake are welcome :) Pencil eye liner - 100%Pure black eyeliner. This is not perfect nor it is long lasting, but this was the only liner I used, so it sort of makes it a favourite? Liquid eyeliner - my DIY from mineral eyeshadow Lipstick - not a fan of that "creamy" feel on the lips, so I skip it most of the time. 100%Pure Pomegrantate Oil, Zao and Red Apple Lipstick are good ones if you are a lipstick person. Lip gloss - 100%Pure Gemmed Lip Gloss in Peacock Ore Highlighter - Inika. Lip balm - Hurraw and Bees Flying Wild. Palette - 100%Pure Pretty Naked II Cruelty free make up brushes - Real Techniques and Ecotools. Eye brow stuff - Alverde or Silk Naturals in medium ash.
SKINCARE - FACE
Moisturiser - NYR Palmarosa face moisturiser. Facial oil - Mahalo Vitality Elixir. Balm - Mahalo Rare Indigo (I have to fess up that I only used two sample pots worth of it, but it impressed me enought to make it into the yearly faves, far more than any other balm, it is amazing for inflammation and it is definitely the product I never want to be without! Definitely getting full size next year) Acne treatment - tea tree oil straight onto the pimple. Nothing works better or quicker. Facial wash/cleanser - NYR Calendula cleanser for sensitive skin. Moisturiser with SPF - Kimberley Sayer Face exfoliant - Urban Veda Sandalwood Soothing Exfoliating Facial Polish Make up remover - Urban Veda Reviving Daily Facial Wash + konjac sponge. Eye make up remover - water and oil on a cotton round. I don't waste time and money looking for perfect eye make up remover when this combo is gentle, costs next to nothing, removes all make up, even water proof one AND moisturises delicate skin around the eyes. Win win situation if you ask me? Under eye cream - I use facial oils and balms as an under eye "moisturisers". NYR white tea gel was a good one that I really enjoyed using. Face mask - Mahalo Bean and DIY masks with manuka honey. Sheet mask - 100%Pure Toner - Urban Veda Sandalwood this is the first toner that I've tried after many years of using rose water for my toner, and the only one I've tried this year, so I guess it makes it my fave, haha!
SKINCARE - BODY
Body scrub - I diy it a lot, if you want a product you could buy - 100%Pure make good ones. Body wash - NYR shower gels. Last for months. Also black African soap. Body lotion - Deep Steep. Body butter - Bees Flying Wild Frankincense and May Chang Honeybutter. Body balm - Bees Flying Wild. Fave brand discovery of the year! Eczema/dermatitis treatment - pure shea butter and Mayan Magic Balm that I am yet to review. Deodorant - my DIY. I've been using it for years, and why buy when it costs 20 cents to make for 6 months worth? This contains baking soda though, so it is not for everyone. Shave cream - I use hair conditioners to shave my legs with, but if you want a "proper" product, Logona is nice one.
Shampoo - Dermorganics followed closely by 100%Pure. Conditioner - DrOrganic Manuka Honey Conditioner. Probably the only product I like from the whole range. Most of the time I don't use any as I don't need any with Dermorganics. Hair and scalp oil - Zatik. I am really minimal with my haircare, I use no styling products at all, nor heat in any form. If my hair has flyways I will use a small amount of Zatik or plain argain oil to smooth it out and that's pretty much it. So there you have it, my best products of 2016! What's yours? I really want to see what everybody else deems the best, please share with me? That is all for now, Lots of Love, Renata.
Hi Lovelies, Welcome back! And if you are new here, welcome 💕💕💕
100%Pure are at it again! They are having an amazing Gift With Purchase AND 20% off their whole stock, so in my mind, this is the offer not to be missed! If you are new to 100%Pure, here are some facts for you:
100% natural. All products start from pure ingredients sourced from farms that do not use pesticides or chemicals
High performance cosmetic and skincare without the toxins
Cruelty-free with monthly charitable donations to animal causes
Large selection of vegan products but note not all 100% Pure products are vegan
You can read some reviews I have on the products here, here and here, but I'll be honest with you, not all of their products ended up working for me. It would be unrealistic, would it? But at the same time some of their products quickly became my Holy Grail products that will be featured in my 2016 Favourites, mark my word! And as honesty is what you get with me, I will also tell you that you have to use the products within 6 to 12 months, and that fact is not widely know.
Hello Lovelies, Welcome back! And if you are new here, welcome 💕💕💕
Today I want you to meet someone special - gorgeous Andie from the Andie The Green Queen Youtube channel and her blog. I have watched her videos for years and I just adore her. And don't get me started on her hair - gorgeous! Amazing! Dreamy! I am talking about both her and her hair by the way, haha. She is battling some serious health conditions but she is not letting it to get to her or slow hew down, and as someone with autoimmune disease myself, I have so much respect for her! And she went on and got me hooked on Earthwise Beauty products, I feel addiction coming up, but this is another post for another time. If you haven't check her out, you need to, she has a wealth of information on green beauty products both on her Youtube channel and her blog. So go on, go to subscribe to her channel here, say hello from me while you are there, and then come back to read the interview with her.
💕 Tell us a bit more about yourself? Why did you start your blog/website and Youtube channel?
Hello, I am Andie from TheGreenQueen. I am a plant based enthusiast. I started my Youtube channel and blog in order to distract myself from my chronic illnesses. Find me on Youtube: www.youtube.com/user/andiethegreenqueen & my blog: www.andiethegreenqueen.weebly.com) At the same time that I was trying to figure out what why my body was attacking me, I made the switch to non-toxic products. It was kind of a no brainer! I also wanted to share with others, and it’s been such a fun journey in doing so.
💕 How has going natural and non toxic in your beauty regimen changed your overall health and beauty?
Going green has changed my life in so many ways. I feel extremely grateful to be on the path I am now. One thing that I really got out of green beauty is the ritual of self care. Before switching to nontoxic products I had never really exfoliated, dry brushed, used facial steams, and so on. My skincare regimen was blah, and I didn’t even use a moisturizer. I have extremely dry skin, so you can imagine how happy my skin is now. Shout out to Ferns & Moss and Magical Babassu from Earthwise Beauty.
💕 Three things that make you happy?
Three things that make me happy are flowers, the moon, and cats!
💕 What is the best advice you've been given?
The best advice I’ve ever been given is to question everything. I’ve had that mindset since I was very young. I’ve always been a non-conformist haha.
💕 What people inspire you?
People who are care free really inspire me!
💕 What are your three (or five) can't-live-without-it beauty products? Pic please!
It was hard to narrow it down to five, but I did it. In the picture is: Uma Hair Oil, Earthwise Beauty Magical Babassu oil, Ferns & Moss oil, George’s Aloe Spray, and Leahlani Bless Balm.
💕 What do you like and dislike about yourself?
I like that I can talk and get along with people of all walks of life. I dislike that I am very anxious, I am working on it though! ;) Flower essences and mindfulness! 💕 What are you currently reading?
I am currently reading Be Here Now by Ram Dass and The Teachings of Don Juan by Carlos Castaneda. By the time you read this, I will probably already be done 3 more books haha.
💕 What food do you like to cook/eat?
Well, my favorite food in general is mashed potatoes. But I love to eat lots of green vegetables, potatoes, and squash.
💕 Your guilty pleasure?
The only one I can really think of is singing 90s boy band songs with my cousin every time we get together. Lol, but doesn’t everyone do that?
💕 Your top tips for being healthy and happy?
Drink lots of water and make sure you’re getting electrolytes, vitamins, and minerals that you need. If you’re able to go outside and enjoy nature, that would be my top tip for staying happy and healthy. Meditating is also a top priority for me. 💕 What scents excite you?
I am a huge fan of patchouli. I don’t think that’ll surprise anyone that knows me. I also really love earthy, musky scents, such as vetiver, frankincense, myrrh, rock rose, and black pepper!
💕 What is your mantra in life?
Always take time to smell the flowers. (I once was at Salvation Army second hand store and I found this sign that had that saying on it, and I swear nothing has ever resonated with me more than that. It was the best $0.69 I ever spent.)
💕 What's your favourite beauty trend at the moment?
I am kind of obsessed with that dewy runway model look that also looks effortless. If you follow Sheristroh on Instagram, which you should be if you aren’t, then you know what I am talking about. That woman is a genius! Also no makeup makeup looks is where it’s at! 💕 3 resources every girl needs..
Blogs. I love blogs that focus on a variety of subjects. My favorites are Green Life in Dublin (obviously), GurlGoneGreen (she also has a podcast which I love), Laura’s Natural Life, Teri Miyahira- she’s been featuring guest bloggers too and it’s been awesome! There’s also Organic Olivia, who is basically my number one. I also really love reading the Free People blog as it focuses on a whole variety of things.
Another resource that every girl needs is books of course. There is Eating Pretty, Skin Cleanse, No More Dirty Looks, and so on. A lot of these books have helped a lot of women change their ways and adopt a green lifestyle.
The last obvious resource to all of us more “advanced” green ladies is EWG Skin deep or something like the Think Dirty App. On Environmental Working Group Skin Deep you can enter products into the search engine to see how “clean” they are, or are not. You can also enter your own report where you just put the ingredients into the database and they measure it being from a 0 to 10, meaning that it goes from clean to dirty! Of course, you can’t just go by these, but do your research when you do one of these and figure out for yourself what is good for your body. We all have different views on the spectrum of green.
💕 Once a week for my health…
I take a walk in the woods. I stare at trees for hours, listen to birds singing, splash around in water, lay in piles of ferns, and more. I think meditating in the woods and being still is the most profound way to relax.
💕 Crazy health idea that actually works?
Drinking ginger and garlic. I cut up tiny pieces and drink both of them raw with some water in the morning. I attribute not being sick for 2 years to this idea. Although I just got sick a couple weeks ago, so now I am back to my ginger/garlic ritual.
💕 What do you do to de-stress?
To de-stress, like I said above, I go into the woods. Nothing makes me more calm and grateful then nature. The other way I de-stress is by writing.I love writing poems.
Thanks for reading this, and thanks to Renata for having me here! Love and light xoxo
All the love, Andie :) Hope you all enjoyed the interview with gorgeous Andie! That's it for now :) Lots of Love, Renata.
