Neal's Yard Remedies Wild Rose Beauty Balm review

Hi Lovelies,

Welcome back! And if you are new here, welcome 💕💕💕

NYR Wild Rose Beauty Balm review

Wild Rose Beauty Balm... Where do I begin? If it didn't came in my Neals Yard Remedies consultant starter kit, I probably would never tried it. In fact that was the sole reason for signing on the dotted line to become a consultant for me, but let's start from the beginning - this was the one of the very few things that my skin tolerated when my dermatitis was at it's worst, (I was sent a sample) so I knew I had to find a way to get it, but the frugal side of me was bawling at the cost! I mean it costs an arm and a leg for a tiny jar that it is, but now I come to think that it is worth every penny. It is actually very economical and there are so many uses for it. So let's dive into the review portion of it, shall we?

Let me start from the worst part. It costs 53.50€ for a 50ml jar. Apart from that, there is no downsides to it! It is very economical, I can attest to that, because I have had it for a year and I am not even done with it, far from it. It might expire sooner than I will be able to finish it off. (covers my eyes in shame). It has many uses for it, and I really like the fact that it has clean ingredients and it is so soothing to the skin. Let's look into the ingredients, shall we?

Rosa canina (Wild rose) seed oil*, Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) seed oil*, Cera alba (Beeswax)*, Butyrospermum parkii (Shea butter)*, Cannabis sativa (Hemp) seed oil*, Borago officinalis (Starflower) seed oil*, Pelargonium graveolens (Geranium) flower oil*, Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) leaf oil*, Boswellia carterii (Frankincense) oil, Cymbopogon martini (Palmarosa) herb oil*, Pogostemon cablin (Patchouli) leaf oil*, Ascorbyl palmitate, Tocopherol, Citral, Citronellol, Farnesol, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool. *Organically produced ingredient. Natural constituent of essential oils listed.
Made with 99% organic ingredients.

It is rosehip seed oil based (along with some other beautiful oils and butters) and that explains the price point. There are many other balms on the market, but if you look into the ingredients, they are either mineral oil based or some cheap oil based. And this is what sets NYR balm from the others. I know, shock horror, but you would be surprised! I am not shaming any brands, all I am saying you should read the ingredients before parting with your hard earned cash. No matter how good the official blurb is, promising you amazing things, always flip the box and peruse the ingredients list! There is a lot of greenwashing out there, and the products may have good active ingredients and/or nice oils and butters somewhere down the ingredients list, but if the first ingredient aka base for the product is mineral oil, you might be doing more damage to yourself. Sorry, let me correct myself - if you are using anything that contains mineral oil, you ARE doing damage to your face and body! It is a petrol by product after all! I don't care what anyone else says, for example I found articles on Paula's Choice website saying that mineral oil is good for sensitive skin (what??!) and Lisa Eldridge apparently also "does not have a problem with it" if it's cleaned well. Well, I do have a huge problem with it! Please go to your bathroom and throw away Johnson's baby oil and anything else that has mineral oil. Yes it might make your skin appear softer, but don't be fooled by it, it is doing so by closing the pores and the skin can't breathe! And because it can't breathe, it doesn't know what to do and it's bringing all the moisture for the deep skin layers, and that is exactly why it appears more soft, it is crying out for help, crying out for moisture and air. Think of taking a plastic wrap and coating your entire body with it and keeping it on for day after day, would you do that to yourself? of course not? Well that is exactly what you are doing to your baby and yourself if you are using mineral oil based oils/balms etc. It is not natural, not sustainable and totally bad for you. Please don't!

Well, Renata, don't get carried away, let's get back to the product, shall we?

Official blurb taken from the NYR website:
Nurtures and revitalises all skin types. Our award-winning Wild Rose Beauty Balm can be used as a rich cleanser, gentle exfoliant or deeply nourishing balm – to quench areas of dry or dehydrated skin. The exceptionally high levels of wild rosehip oil – a potent antioxidant proven to help repair, firm and smooth the skin – are combined with geranium, starflower, hemp and rosemary oil, to help decongest and enrich the skin, restoring its natural radiance.
Includes a free organic muslin cloth.

I have to agree on all counts, and as you can see, I forgot to add that it also comes with a free organic cotton cloth. The packaging will also look different from mine, since then NYR decided to keep the label they had designed for their exclusive limited edition range they had a while back, so now it has flowers and butterflies on it. I don't mind either way, all I care is the good product inside of the jar. They also came out with the wild rose hand cream, body elixir, beauty elixir, and wild rose SPF 30 moisturiser, all of the things I am dying to try, and since I am due my annual order, you might see these products on my Instagram feed and blog later on.All in all, I am so happy with this product I would include into my TOP 10 and I would most definitely include it in my desert island kit. I am really impressed with almost all my NYR products I had, if you want to see my stash and what I think of all of it, please click here. (clarification, they are all great products, but my sensitive skin could not tolerate the essential oils in some of the face products).

How to use this product? Well, it has multiple uses, you can use it as a mask (my fave way of using it, every time my skin is irritated, red and splotchy, I reach for it and it guaranteed to calm and nourish my skin), you can also remove your make up with it, and I have done a few times, works well, removes all of the make up, including mascara really well, but I feel it would be too expensive to use it this way as it would run out way too fast. Using muslin cloth afterwards also provides gentle exfoliation. The website also says to use three step program with it, as in remove your make up, use the cloth to wash it off and thus exfoliate the skin gently, and then use the same balm as a mask. I have done this and I am happy to report it does not clog pores and your skin is happy and amazing afterwards. I highly recommend it. I also use it for many other things too, as in as a lip mask if they are particularly dry and chapped, on my cuticles and elbows, I put this on to soothe mine or kids noses after a cold, you know, when your nose is all raw and red after blowing your nose too many times. Tame your eyebrows in a pinch. Add this on the high points of your cheeks to give you that luminous glow. I also once mixed it with the powder mineral foundation as per Sarita Coren recommendation for dry skin gals (if you are not reading her blog Edible  Facial, you are seriously missing out!) and it worked awesome. You get the idea. Ask your consultant for a sample and I guarantee you will fall in love with it. Yes, 53.5€ seems like a lot of money initially, but it will last you a year, and divided by a monthly basis it is not that much? Plus it is 99% organic product, so I will have that please :)

So there you go, that is my post for today. Have you tried this balm? How do you like it? What is your favourite NYR product if you have tried this brand? Please share with me, I would love to know!

That is all for now,
Lots of Love,
Renata.

*Disclaimer. I bought  the product with my own money. That never affects my judgement of the product.

Natural Juicy Tubes Peach Dupe - 100%Pure Gemmed Lip Gloss in Peacock Ore (review)

Hi Lovelies,

100%Pure Gemmed Lip Glosses review

So, I was oohing and aaaghing over a 100% Pure Cosmetics Gemmed lip gloss in Peacock Ore while I was applying it on my lips for the millionth time (I can't put it down since getting it) and two thoughts hit me - one, this is my Favourite Lip Gloss Ever and two, this is almost exact dupe to my previously loved Juicy Tube in Peach, which I used to love so much too. Hence how this blog post was born, maybe it will help to make a switch for some of you? I know that unwillingness to give up your favourite product only too well myself, this shade of Juicy tubes and Nars Orgasm Blush were the hardest for me to give up, as I was finding the hardest time in searching for replacements. So I am here to make it easy for you :) Psst, see this post for more than 20 natural and organic Nars Orgasm dupes! You are welcome.
Gemmed lip glosses are the newest addition to 100%Pure make up line, and as soon as I learned they contain real crushed mineral stones like moonstone, opal, pyrite and such, I was like "gimme gimme gimme!". The swatches on 100%Pure Instagram page looked fabulous, and I was having a hard time in choosing the shade, as I want them all! I was so beyond the moon thrilled when 100%Pure sent me Peacock Ore, as it is a truly fabulous shade that would suit a variety of skin tones, and I am sure it would look fabulous on all of them. I am so excited about it, you have no idea. I want to run around gifting it to all the people, it brings me that much joy! Psst, you might guess what all of my girlfriends are getting in their stocking come Christmas. What? When you find good stuff you want to share it, right? I know I do that, am I the only one?

Anyways, let's get back to the review post, shall we?Just like Juicy Tubes, 100%Pure lip glosses are long lasting with little or no stickiness and look extremely beautiful on the lips. What makes 100%Pure one so great? Clean ingredients, of course! Let's take a look:

Juicy Tubes:
Butyrospermum parkii butter / shea butter, dimer dilinoeyl dimer dilinoleate, ricinus communis oil / castor seed oil, hydrogenated castor oil dimer, dilinoleate, sucrose acetate isobutyrate, silica dimethyl silylate, calcium sodium borosilicate, linalool, calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, sodium saccarin, silica, limonene, citral, citrus medica limonum (lemon) peel oil, CI 15850 / RED 7, CI 77491, CI 77492 / iron oxides, CI 77891 / titanium dioxide, mica, parfum /fragrance.

100%Pure Gemmed Lip Gloss:
Vegetable Glycerin, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Pigments / Extracts Of Vaccinium Myrtillus (Bilberry), Punica Granatum (Pomegranate), Wine (Red Wine) Lees, Vaccinium Macrocarpon Fruit (Cranberry), Rubus Fruticosus Fruit (Blackberry), Prunus Persica Fruit (Peach), Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa), Rubus Occidentalis (Black Raspberry), Aronia Melanocarpa (Chokeberry),Prunus Cerasas (Cherry), Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa Bean) And Vaccinium Angustifolium (Blueberry) Skin, Granatum (Pomegranate) Seed Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary), Origanum Vulgare (Oregano), Thymus Vulgaris Flower/leaf (Thyme), Natural Flavors, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Starch, Labradorite (Natural Mineral Stone), Moonstone (Natural Mineral Stone), Australian Opal (Natural Mineral Stone), Pyrite (Natural Mineral Stone), Sunstone (Natural Mineral Stone), May Contain Mica

Let's compare a bit - while Juicy Tubes is shea butter based, it contains plenty of chemicals as well as dyes derived from coal tar (say what?) and it is not cruelty free as Lancome is under L'Oreal umbrella, all the exact reasons why I gave it up! On the other hand, 100%Pure is truly the company that is close to my heart these days, theirs was the first clean make up that I bought and continue to buy to this day, many of their items ended up on my Holy Grail list, and I am really impressed with 99% of the items I have tried from them. I also really like the fact that the ingredients are so clean that you understand every single ingredient when you glance at the list, you can't say that about too many brands! I am so so happy they came out with these gemmed lip glosses and that I got the opportunity to test it out. In fact this review blog post wasn't finished yet, and I went on and purchased another one in Rainbow Aura, which is nudish/light brown one, I am on the kick for nude lips lately, so I am sure I will get so much use out it too. It will be with me in about two weeks time and I will make sure to update this blog post with a photo.

So there it is, my short and sweet review post, I would be so happy with myself if I helped someone to make a switch? Have you tried any of 100%Pure? How do you like it? Please share with me, I would like to know!

Hope life is treating you well!

Dermorganic Shampoo Review - My Holy Grail Shampoo

Hi Lovelies,

Today I am coming at you with something I should have reviewed long time ago. It's my favourite shampoo ever, and it is one of the few products I can't live without - please step forward Dermorganic Daily Conditioning Shampoo With Argan Oil!  I am using it for the second year running into a third, and I think that is sufficient time for testing the product, don't you think? Haha, I don't always test products for nearly three years (imagine that!) before posting a review on it, but today that's exactly the case :)

Dermorganic Shampoo Review

Dermorganic Daily Conditioning Shampoo with Argan Oil

Let's start from the beginning, shall we? Haircare was the hardest thing for me to switch, and I am sure many of you will agree with this! Even though my skincare and make up switch is going into sixth or seventh year straight, I am clean with my hair care for around four. I have tried many clean or cleaner shampoos since the start of the switch, of course I had, but none of them worked for me, they either gave me dandruff or dried out my hair or didn't do anything, full stop. As I worked in customer facing job at that time, in managerial position, so having crappy hair was not an option, so I flicked back and forth to the conventional shampoos for a couple of years until I read No More Dirty Looks book and learned that our scalp is the most absorbent place in our bodies. I also did some more research on the SLS and found out  that (it is in just about every conventional shampoo) is the same stuff that mechanics clean the gunk off the engines, the same stuff in your Fairy dishwasher liquid or your laundry detergent. It is cheap extremely harsh chemical that washes away all the oils and everything else. And it was exactly the stuff I was putting o my scalp?? Needless to say I was horrified and put brakes on the conventional shampoos and just about everything else from that moment. What happened next? Long story short, I spent two years having bad hair days, because I did a round two trying out all the clean shampoos I could find in the shops in Ireland, and lo behold, none of them worked. Let's just say there were A LOT of bun days when I was working.
So I had very little hope when I found this little beauty Dermorganic shampoo in TK Maxx. The label "made with 70% organic ingredients" caught my eye, and when I checked the ingredients, I was like, yes, you are coming home with me :) I was also very intrigued by the fact that it is made with facial cleansers, because up until then I haven't heard about any shampoo being made with facial cleansers, so I wanted to check it out for myself. I decided to leave matching conditioner and masque, because a) they had some ingredients I didn't like, if memory serves me correct, it was dimethicone, and b) they also came in 1 litre giant bottles, so I wanted to test drive the shampoo first. So I came home, I washed my hair and it was love at the first wash!! My hair was silky again! Nice again! Shiny again! No dandruff! No itchy scalp! What more can you ask for? I should mention that I have fine hair, but lots of it (enough for two people according to my hairdresser. It used to be oily at the roots, dry and tangly at the ends prior to the switch to clean products, now it is "normal".

Long story short I stocked up for years, it was a mad dash across all the TKMaxx branches in Dublin, and I was lucky enough to score three of them. I look for it every time I am in that shop, but they never came back sadly, so here is the not-so-good bit if you are from Ireland or Europe and want to try it - I don't think it is available here apart from online shops! If you know otherwise, please let me know, either in comments here or on my Instagram page. I was able to find it at Amazon and Strawberrynet.com but I didn't order from these yet. I should also mention that the ingredients list "fragrance", something that I am usually suspicious about, but since it didn't offend my nose nor my scalp I kinda overlooked it, because other than that it is truly great shampoo that I can say only good things about. I checked my Instagram feed to track when I opened my current bottle, and it is 38 weeks ago, and I am only halfway through! Fabulous or what? This shampoo is well worth the price, even if I will have to pay the damn custom fees when I will get it, it is well worth it. As far as I looked around online, the prices vary wildly, so make sure you do your homework, some e-tailers will charge you the same price for 300ml of shampoo, where in other places you get 1 litre for the same amount of money. Bear in mind the custom fees too, if you are not sure where the item ships from, email the e-tailer first, I know I paid the damned custom fees every time I ordered from strawberrynet. That was long time ago, and they reimbursed me, not sure if that is the case today. I should also add that I only wash my hair 1-2 times a week, so that is partly due to the fact that it is lasting so long. The texture is unlike many shampoos, it is thick and creamy, and that ties me nicely to the only con I can find - the pump stops working 1/3rd way into the 1 litre bottle, and not wanting to add water to it, I decant it into the glass jar and just scoop what I need with my hands.

Let's look at the ingredients, shall we?
Aqua/Eau/Water, Disodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Decyl Glucoside, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Cetearyl Glucoside, Methyl Gluceth-20, Organic Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil, Organic Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Extract, Organic Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract, Rice Amino Acids, PCA, Panthenol B5, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Glycereth-2 Cocoate/Benzoic Acid, Parfum/Fragrance

The official gab, taken from their website:
Sulfate-Free DermOrganic Daily Conditioning Shampoo is made with skin cleansers that moisturize and strengthen salon-treated hair. Gentle on hair, scalp and skin, it creates a rich luxurious lather that makes other sulfate-free shampoos jealous.

  • Gentle sulfate-free formula
  • Safe for color-treated hair
  • The shampoo made with skin cleansers!
  • Revitalizes and enlivens
  • Rich luxurious lather that makes other sulfate-free shampoos jealous

  • No Sodium Chloride, Salt, MEA, DEA or Dyes
  • Paraben-Free and Propylene Glycol-Free

  • Made with Argan Oil of Morocco

  • I have to say I agree with all the claims, this is the best gamble of my life, so so glad I picked it up!
For me it works so great, that I don't need any conditioners at all, my hair actually look worse if I try to use any. Isn't that sign for how great this product is?
This shampoo is the best I have tried to date, I have had a sample of Rahua shampoo and it is great, but have you thought about how much it costs for a litre of it?
    .
P.s. I am testing some more shampoos loved by the green beauty community in the form of Josh Rosebrook Balance shampoo and conditioner and 100%Pure Burdock and Neem one, reviews are in the line, so stay tuned!

So that is all for now :) What shampoo is your favourite? Have you tried Dermorganic? How was the experience for you? Please share with me!

    Improve Your Health With Symprove

    Hi Lovelies,

How many of you are taking probiotics? Be honest! Well, I was just like you, hearing all about them, but balking at the thought of having to take them on an everyday basis and the cost of it. In the last few years doctors started recommending that we do take it, and there is a serious reason behind it. I am pretty sure that it is the thing for me and my family. It helped me overcome my dermatitis and so much more than that. My husband, who is dead against all vitamins came down with the nasty stomach bug that was going on in his work. His co-workers were out for a week and he was back to his fighting form within two days, everyone was amazed and wanted to know what he has taken. Probiotics help myriad of symptoms and are needed for much of the body's functions. I really see the benefits of it and will continue to take it for the rest of my life. But let's start from the beginning, shall we?
     What are probiotics?
Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that are good for your health, especially your digestive system. We usually think of bacteria as something that causes diseases. But your body is full of bacteria, both good and bad. Probiotics are often called "good" or "helpful" bacteria because they help keep your gut healthy. They help with myriad of health conditions, like digestive problems, IBS, skin conditions, cancer, and so much more than that! Probiotics hold the key not just for better health and a stronger immune system, but also for healing digestive issues, mental health illness, and neurological disorders. I won't bore you with all the scientific stuff, you can find it out for yourself, all the info is out there, you can start with Wikipedia page, but I can only speak for myself and the experience I had.

Symprove contacted me via Instagram and kindly offered a 12 weeks program for me to try, and already knowing what a good thing probiotics are, I jumped at a chance. Today is my final week and I can give you my honest opinion about it. Symprove claim to be the only brand of probiotics that survives the harsh conditions of our stomach and makes it to the gut. You can read it all about it here.
Each bottle contains a weeks amount of probiotics, and once open you have to keep it in the fridge. Each morning you take a shot of probiotics and wait for ten minutes before eating or drinking anything else. I had mango and passion fruit flavoured one, and I have to be honest here, it is an acquired taste, it didn't faze me one bit, but some people might not like it? It is similar to kombucha in a way.  I find this is one area where you can't cut corners, where the price definitely reflects the quality. You want billions of bacteria per portion or capsule, not millions. Also pay attention how many strands of bacteria your chosen probiotics has, the more the better. Another minefield is whether or not probiotics will survive until they make their way to the gut. If you are clueless about it and which brand or product to chose, don't be shy and ask for the help choosing at your local health food store, that is exactly what shop assistants are for! I would advise not to go for those one shot yogurts you can find in the supermarkets, they are full of sugar, which undoes all the good work, and cheaper brands don't have anywhere nearly enough of the good stuff to make a difference.

So, how did I find it? Well, it is hard to measure if probiotics are doing anything, as it is internal job, it is not like make up or skincare where you apply and gauge to difference straight away! For me the biggest indicator that it is working was the normalized digestion, I used to go back and forth from constipation to diarrhea (sorry, TMI! I know! but at the same time it is hard to talk about gut otherwise) and I took it as "normal" as that was the way I grew up, but I thought long and hard about this, and I suddenly realised that it has been months since I had stomach cramps or constipation or any other tummy or digestion problems, and my tummy isn't bloated any more, although I have to say that giving up dairy and gluten plus wheat may have also contributed to this. One way or another, if it helps my digestion, and keeps dermatitis at bay, I will continue taking it!

What about you? Are you taking probiotics? What kind? And how was the experience for you?

P.s. You can get Symprove via their website, Amazon and if you are in Ireland, they sell in Nourish and via wholefoods.ie. You can also contact them at contact@symprove.com if you want to know more detailed information or to ask about retailers near you.

P.P.S. If you want super loaded probiotics, I mean with not only 16 strains of different probiotics, but ALSO with a mixture of 22 medicinal plants and herbs, I recommend Probiotic Power from Dutch Health Store

So that is all for now!
    Lots of love,

    Renata.
