Natural Fails & Horrible Dermatitis Reaction to Ecos Product

Hi my loves,

Today I will share my green and natural products fails with you. Warning, gross pic coming up, if you don't want to see it, click out now.

The Ecos natural laundry detergent caused me so much grief alone, it's fourth week I am battling dermatitis because if it, and l never had it so bad in my life! I tried all manner of natural remedies to combat it, but as it started to spread it on the face, my family packed me up and brought to the doctor, so now I am on antibiotics, antihistamines and calamine lotions, all those things I was trying to avoid in the first place. I posted a pic of this laundry detergent on Instagram about a month ago, and was so excited to use this, as l had trouble finding green product in that category, some of other natural detergents have SLS in them which defeats the purpose or just don't work, plain and simple. So long story short soon after using it I started to get itchy all over, and although I tried not to scratch the skin during the day, l found myself doing that at night without even realising it, and those little dermatitis patches soon spread like a wildfire on my body. At that time I thought I was having a reaction to new soap (first lesson of the day, don't introduce more than one new product into your routine) and I thought it will go away soon, and l have it under control with my natural remedies (I tried chamomile, tea tree, rosewater, fresh aloe vera, neem and ACV, not all at once of course but tried anything natural l could think of) so l kept washing my clothes with this Ecos laundry detergent; stopped using that soap straight away and showered with nothing but water on my body so not to irritate the skin even more. Coming into second week I found myself no better at all and the itch would not stop, so it dawned on me it might be something to do with laundry detergent, and lo behold, it was, as soon as I re-washed all my clothes the itch stopped, but my dermatitis was no better, by now the skin as inflamed and those tiny red angry bumps were pooling up together into one giant sore. So I had to capitulate and go to the doctor (don't try this at home, I am someone who tried to avoid doctors unless l am absolutely dying, and I am paying high price in this instance), Now I can't believe I am doing this, but I am inserting pic of the proof of how my skin looks like now, and goodness only knows how much time will pass until I will heal. The wost part is that I have to have my picture taken for a passport next week, so will probably will be marked as a crocodile face for the next 10 years :( The pic on the right is with three layers of war paint, l mean foundation
Omg, what have I done to myself? Needless to say it put me off for trying new products for life, for all the things related to clothes washing l am sticking to what l know already. The irony is that I reacted to a natural product so badly, when none of conventional products like Ariel were a concern before. Don't be scared to try this as you might not have any reaction to it, as I am the only one who is affected out of four of us! There might not be anything bad in that product, but it didn't suit me for sure. As we all know if the product is natural it does not mean it will suit you, and I would advice to do a patch test, but how on earth do you do a patch test on laundry detergent?

**UPDATE 6 WEEKS LATER**
My skin now looks like this pic below, it's not getting better, it's getting worse, and l am going back to doctor soon! So upsetting, it's 6 weeks of my life already ruined! And who knows when it will get better? And the Ecos company's reaction when I let them know I reacted to their product this way via Instagram? They offered me a sample of their washing detergent for sensitive skin! Can you believe it?
So, I am post second visit to the doctor, this time I got second round of antibiotics and antibiotic cream for the face, because my skin is infected by now! This is just horrible & I want to cry! And I am not even someone who cries.

Shall we move on? Sukin face moisturiser is what we will talk about next. Sukin is a great clean AU brand, and I was so excited to find it in Holland and Barrett, really liked the ingredients of this, and the price isn't too bad, about 13€ for more than 100ml of products, l was like yipee, l found my holy grail face cream, right? wrong! My face reacted to alcohols in it, and since then l learned to read the ingredients labels on the products, because that is the real indicator how clean the product is, not the claims on the front of the bottle. Lesson learned? Avoid alcohols in products, because my skin breaks out from it.

Jurlique Balancing Skin Oil was the first facial oil I got and it was a love at first, it feels so luxurious, I wanted it to never end, and was doing mental calculations on how I will afford to keep using it such an expensive product, as we all know Jurlique isn't exactly cheap. Long story short, it broke me out, and l know it did, l took breaks from it and kept trying to introduce it again a few weeks later after my skin would clear up; and my skin would break out again every time I tried to use it, so the problem sorted itself out. Since then I learned Jurlique is not that natural as they claim to be so I am fine of not using it anymore. Time to give it away.

Skin Revivals Organic Facial Cleansing Oil was the first oil I used since learning about the oil cleansing method, but again, it broke me out! After some research I have tried many different was of using it, but it did not work for me, nice juicy pimple would show up every time after using this product. I got this oil because I it is organic and the bottle says "rosehip and avocado" on the front label, so l assumed it had only those two oil in it, and it confused me a bit once l broke out for the first time, so l digged a bit deeper (as it doesn't have full list on ingredients on the bottle, and on their website you won't find full list of ingredients at a first glance either, only after you scroll down the page you will find tiny print "for full list of ingredients click here" you will learn that it is sunflower seed based and has many other ingredients including tocopherol, citronellol, geraniol, linalool, citral and limonene.

Why is it so difficult to find clean natural products that would work? The struggle is real.

Lastly, two natural deodorants, crystal rock and Jason Aloe Vera one, I will keep it short, they don't work. None of the green deos worked for me, and I've used plenty, including Weleda and other brands. Since then I use my own DIY and couldn't be happier with it.

So that is all for now,
Hope you are doing way better than I am!
Lots of Love,
Renata.

  1. Oh nooo! I am so sorry about your reaction! I hope your skin will heal soon! And don't worry about those photos- I wasn't allowed to smile so I look like a convict on all of my official documents :-D Thanks for the review though- don't think I will be trying out any of these products now! Oh, and regarding natural deo..I can totally relate to your struggle - I have tried soooo many products! What works really well for me is Schmidt's deodorant- I absolutely love it! I did a review not long ago on my blog if you are interested :-)
